VENN Jyväskylä We went to get coffee at Venn. When we stepped in to the coffee shop, the first impression was really good. Staff and other customers were laid back and it seemed like that this particular coffee shop is really popular, because it is one of the main places to get coffee in Jyväskylä. In addition to place being full of people spending time with their friends, there seemed to be also extremely many students studying. On top of that we noticed that the... Lue lisää...
DeLorean – a neon colored blast from the past
In the middle of Jyväskylä's centre lies a unique neon colored cocktail bar. Entering DeLorean feels like jumping back in time to the eighties. The idea is fitting, as the name of the cocktail bar refers to the DeLorean Motor Company's iconic car DMC-12, which served as the time machine for the Back to the Future movies. Eighties and retro are currently in a boom, but when DeLorean's other owner, Sampsa Tukia, tells the bar's background history, the owners were not aware... Lue lisää...

Beverage products and producers at Fiskars Festival
Our visit to Slow Food event in the village of Fiskars was nice. The local producers presented their product selections and we were able to sample a variety of products and drinks. Ägräs Handicraft Drinks The whiskey is clear in colour when it is distilled and still raw. Ägräs handicraft whiskey is worth tasting also in its raw version. Currently, whiskey matures in barrels, which makes its color and flavor deeper. The production family also includes... Lue lisää...
Day from a child´s perspective
We were on a trip to Fiskars. They had a Slow Food festival there. It was held in an old but renovated barn. We spent afternoon there looking around and tasting foods. We kept our eye especially on activities and eating possibilities for children. We wanted to know if families and all aged children enjoyed the festival. We also went around the area to see how families were considered, like were they able to move around with babystroller and were wc-facilities... Lue lisää...

Vegetables and vegetable products by Team Carrots
We are service business students from JAMK and we are having a course called Food Culture in this semester. We got a chance to visit Fiskars Village while there was going on Slow Food Festival and of course we wanted to experience it. We saw it as an opportunity to get to know Finnish and other countries food cultures better than we do. So, the trip began on October 5th from JAMK’s parking lot at 7.00 am. All the students were quite tired in the morning, but still... Lue lisää...
Restaurant Taikuri & diet restrictions
We decided to go create an experience in the Jyväskylä’s local, well recognized restaurant Taikuri, too see what’s the fuzz all about. We’ve all heard of it, some of us had had something to eat at the place, some of had no experience on Taikuri at all. It was a positive surprise! When we entered the establishment, a warm, tasty atmosphere filled our surroundings. The place looked like regular restaurant, maybe on the hipster-side. They seem to... Lue lisää...
Local Restaurants and Cafes at Fiskars Slow Food Festival 2019
On a sunny October day, we arrived in Fiskars Village for the Slow Food Festival; craving for new gastronomic experience – and we didn’t get disappointed. The experience was way more than only “food”. Getting closer to Fiskars Village, the scenery turned to a spectacular panoply of nature; vibrant autumn colors complementing some cozy wooden houses and authentic craftsman architecture. Approaching the festival area, scents hit us right away, not... Lue lisää...
One cup of flour and a pinch of happiness
We went to Fiskars, because there was a Slow Food Festival on the 5th of October 2019 and the trip was part of our school project. Fiskars is a small village in Raasepori in the southern part of Finland. Fiskars has the old ironworks and it’s founded in 1649. In the food festival were producers that were offering different kinds of food. Our group were focusing on bakery products and producers. After stepping out of the bus, getting the pink jamk.fi-stickers and walking... Lue lisää...
Kaupunkiviljelyä Jyväskylässä
Olen toisen vuoden restonomiopiskelija, pääaineenani kestävä gastronomia, ja edeltävänä keväänä eteeni tuli kiinnostava mahdollisuus osallistua kesäkurssille, jossa kirjojen lukemisen ja raporttien kirjoittamisen sijaan opintopisteitä oli mahdollista kerätä viljelemällä kasveja kaupungissa. Osallistuin oitis, sillä ajatus siitä, ettei kesää tarvitsisikaan viettää pelkästään tietokoneen ääressä, oli vähintäänkin houkutteleva. Mainittakoon... Lue lisää...
Ethnic Restaurants in Jyväskylä – Japanese
We compared two sushi restaurants in Jyväskylä through our own experiences. The restaurants we compared were Hanko sushi and Haiku sushi. At first we noticed the differences about the lunch prices. Haiku sushi is cheaper in comparison to Hanko sushi. In Hanko you can get lunch in three sizes. The first one is small and it costs 10 euros, the second is medium and costs 13,50 euros and the last one is large and costs 16,50 euros. You can also have all lunches in vegetarian... Lue lisää...
Group Meatlovers at Fiskars Festival
It was October 5th when we left from Jyväskylä early in the morning, around 7am. The bus ride to Fiskars Slow Food Festival was long but around 11am we finally arrived. The weather was chilly yet sunny, but the atmosphere in the festival was really warm and welcoming. Everyone was eager to see and hear everything that was happening around them. Our group's topic was meat products and producers. That’s why we named our group the Meatlovers. All though we focused mainly... Lue lisää...
Opiskelijaruokaa Mankolan puutarhasta
Matkalla kävimme turisteilemassa Bomarsundin linnoituksella, jossa otimme muutamat kuvat. Ensimmäinen kohteemme oli Ålands Landbygdscentrum, jossa Lena Brenner kertoi meille Ahvenanmaan kestävästä... Lue lisää...
Työharjoittelu toisella puolen maapalloa
Työharjoittelu on yksi niistä aivan mahtavista keinoista harjoitella työelämässä olemista opiskelun aikana.
